The Laboratory for the Study of Thermal and Energy Systems (LESTE) organized the Kick-off meeting of the TEC-H2 consortium. This event brought together many senior and young researchers, representatives from the Directorate General of Scientific Research (DGRST-MESRT), as well as national partners of the project.

In the opening, Professor Chiheb BOUDEN emphasized that TEC-H2 aligns with national objectives for energy transition and international commitments to combat climate change, by structuring research around green hydrogen and its derivatives to meet industrial, environmental, and societal needs. Professor Anis SAKLY, Director of ENIM, expressed his pride in seeing LESTE play a leading role in the consortium, highlighting its importance in the development of innovative solutions. Professor Sami YOUSSEF, Vice President of the University of Monastir, praised the organization of the event and emphasized the University’s leadership in hosting two major consortia. He wished all partners a fruitful collaboration.

The first session featured three presentations. Professor Chiheb BOUDEN provided an introductory talk entitled “Green Hydrogen: What and Why?”, presenting the national strategy, climate challenges, and the crucial role of hydrogen in accelerating the energy transition, particularly in light of the implementation of carbon border adjustment mechanisms. He also highlighted the opportunities this context offers Tunisia to strengthen its exports.

Ms. Raja KHOUAJA, General Director of EMA, then took the floor to discuss the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment of renewable energy and hydrogen projects. She focused on applicable regulatory standards and international requirements, and detailed the ESIA development process, from site identification to the assessment of potential impacts.

The third presentation was delivered by Mr. Abid AMAIDI, Director of National Research Programs at DGRST-MESRT. He presented the legal, organizational, and financial framework of research consortia, explaining their governance model and the evaluation process led by ATEA.

The second session was dedicated to a detailed presentation of the TEC-H2 consortium: its objectives, projects, partners, committees, projected timeline, and deliverables. Four research projects will be developed within this framework, each supervised by a scientific committee chaired respectively by Professors Zied JEMAI, Abdelmajid JEMNI, Ali SNOUSSI, and Chiheb BOUDEN. These leaders shared the outcomes of preparatory meetings that defined the implementation methodologies of the projects.

The third session opened a space for discussion and exchange between the members of the TEC-H2 consortium's steering committee and the audience.
